Visit to the Zenica Scouts Camp at Boračko Lake
Minister Sibonjic visited the Zenica Scouts camp at Boračko Lake, which hosts around 1,000 children annually from five countries with US Embassy support.
The Minister of Economy of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton, Samir Sibonjic, together with ZDK Prime Minister Amra Mehmedić, Minister of Finance Dženana Čišija and Minister of Education Draženka Subašić, visited the Zenica City Scouts camp at Boračko Lake.
The Zenica City Scouts have grown into a respected organisation recognised worldwide, with longstanding support from the US Embassy in BiH. Each year, they organise a camp for approximately 1,000 children from various countries and cities across BiH. This year, the camp hosted children from five European countries and 12 cities in BiH, with free attendance provided for children of disabled war veterans from Zavidovići.
The programme includes education in orientation, topography, camp skills, ecology, outdoor living and the history of the peoples of BiH, as well as computer science, tolerance, interfaith values and scientific disciplines.
The Minister expressed his admiration for the children's order and discipline, as well as the effectiveness of the educational programmes. It was noted positively that during classes, which last several hours a day, the children have no need to use mobile phones, thereby reducing dependence on technology and improving social adaptability.
It was also observed that parents frequently visit tourist destinations in the surrounding area following their children's stay at the camp, which benefits the tourism sector. Minister Sibonjic expressed his full support and announced that within the framework of projects aimed at strengthening the tourism potential of ZDK, there is scope for supporting the development of the Scouting organisation in the canton.
