Meeting with Handball World Champion Jasmin Mrkonja
Minister Sibonjic hosted handball world champion Jasmin Mrkonja from Zavidovići, a 1986 world champion and pride of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Minister of Economy of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton, Samir Sibonjic, hosted Jasmin Mrkonja, a gold-medal handball player and world champion, and a source of great pride for Zavidovići and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The conversation focused on the future of sport in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Jasmin Mrkonja won the World Handball Championship in 1986 as a player, was a two-time European champion with Metaloplastika from Šabac, and as a coach led RK Gračanica to the national championship in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also served as head coach of both the senior and cadet national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and currently works in Osijek.
Minister Sibonjic emphasised that athletes such as Mrkonja are the finest ambassadors of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole, and that the Ministry recognises the importance of connecting sport and the economy as a key element of the canton's overall development.
