Minister Šibonjić announces new IT/AI hub in Kakanj and IT academy launch

Minister of Economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton Samir Šibonjić presented the Decision on the development of IT/AI hubs in the territory of Zenica-Doboj Canton for 2026, which was adopted by the Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton at its 126th session, chaired by Prime Minister Nezir Pivić. The aim of the project is to build an integrated network of IT/AI hubs that will provide all towns and cities in the canton with equal access to digital resources, knowledge and the business opportunities of the 21st century.

The Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton has been continuously developing the IT sector in cooperation with the Regional Development Agency for the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina region, and IT/AI hubs have so far been built and fully equipped in Zenica, Zavidovići and Maglaj. These spaces function as gathering points for young professionals, freelancers and companies in the fields of information technology and artificial intelligence, and serve as venues for programmes of education, mentorship and business networking. With this year's decision, the network is being expanded, with a new hub planned in Kakanj, thus continuing the canton's investment in digital infrastructure.

Minister Šibonjić emphasised that the strengthening of existing IT/AI hubs continues and announced the launch of an IT/AI academy in Zenica-Doboj Canton, aimed at providing young professionals with additional support in the development of this sector, which is one of the fastest-growing areas of the economy in the region and the world. „The Government of Zenica-Doboj Canton continues to develop the IT sector in cooperation with the Regional Development Agency for the Central Bosnia and Herzegovina region; this year we are planning a new location in Kakanj," said Minister Šibonjić. The Ministry of Economy remains committed to the further development of the digital economy and to creating new opportunities for young professionals in Zenica-Doboj Canton.
