Ministry of Economy of ZDK Participates in the Sustainable Transition of BiH (BiH SuTra) Project

The Ministry of Economy of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton will take an active part in the implementation of the project "Sustainable Transition of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH SuTra)", aimed at promoting sustainable transition in the country. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and implemented by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) in cooperation with the Energy Sector of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH. The agreement on participation was reached at a working meeting in Zenica between Minister of Economy Samir Sibonjic and Sanjin Avdić, SEI Project Coordinator.

The BiH SuTra project aims to contribute to sustainable transition by supporting coal-rich areas, including four pilot local government units: the municipalities of Breza, Banovići, the city of Živinice, and the municipality of Ugljevik. The bottom-up approach involves the development of transition plans until 2050 across five key areas: biodiversity and nature protection, circular economy, decarbonisation, pollution reduction, and sustainable agriculture. Special attention has been devoted to the municipality of Breza in Zeničko-Dobojski Canton, where working groups have already been formed and a draft vision of sustainable transition for 2050 has been prepared.

Minister Sibonjic emphasised that sustainable economic growth and an environmentally responsible future for the canton are priorities of the Ministry, and that economic development and sustainability are two sides of the same coin. The Ministry will continue to support this initiative through further cooperation and by ensuring support for the implementation of measures within the cantonal jurisdiction.
