Pyramid Energy House enhanced its visitor complex in Visoko
Grantee:Pyramid Energy House, Visoko
Who stands behind the project
Pyramid Energy House is a registered household holiday house located in Varoško polje on the outskirts of Visoko. The complex comprises several pyramid-shaped wooden chalets - a distinctly Bosnian building style that fits seamlessly into the narrative of the Bosnian Pyramids for which Visoko has become globally known.
The family running the facility was simultaneously developing it, recognising that Visoko as a destination is growing and that investment was needed to extend the quality of visits. That insight resulted in this project: "Fence the garden, plant the flowers".
Why a fence and a garden - a pragmatic approach
The project was not a spectacularly new structure nor a new line of business. It was a pragmatic investment in the daily guest experience, with clear reasons:
- The old wire fence was worn out - rotten and barely standing, no longer aesthetic, secure, or functional
- The urban edge brings wildlife - hares, foxes, and squirrels cross the plot, and stray dogs and cats could also enter; for guests with children, this was a problem
- The need for privacy - the chalets were exposed to passers-by; a modern guest expects an enclosed yard where they can sit, let the child play, and have breakfast outside
The fence did not only solve a practical problem. It enabled the entire next phase: a green oasis that the family cultivated behind it.
What was done
The core intervention
- replacement of the old wire fence with a modern modular metal fence
- removal of the rotten structure that was no longer functional
A green oasis after the fence
- planting of garden grass in the yard
- several varieties of flowers for seasonal and perennial beauty
- several fruit trees - aesthetic and functional, with fruit for guests
- a swing for the youngest guests
When a guest enters the space, they are welcomed by a carefully maintained yard, the scent of flowers, a place for children to play, and a genuine sense of family hospitality - not just accommodation but a warm home welcome.
Why this matters for Visoko
Visoko is a tourist destination with a unique identity. The Bosnian Pyramids are a globally recognised theme, and the city is developing towards ecological, spiritual, and cultural tourism. Guests coming to Visoko are not ordinary transit tourists - they seek:
- authentic accommodation rather than a generic hotel
- peace and nature - hence "energy house" in the name
- a connection with the ambiance of the city and the pyramids
- a family atmosphere rather than anonymous service
Pyramid Energy House already offers all of this - pyramid-shaped chalets, a view of the pyramids, a rural setting. This project complemented that identity through an arranged yard and access infrastructure.
Economic effects - beyond the facility itself
Such an investment touches the wider local community:
- The City of Visoko and ZDK - directly through tourist taxes paid by guests
- Taxi operators - most guests use taxis to reach the pyramids and the city centre
- Local shops, markets, boutiques, and souvenir stores - guests spend locally
- Local producers - tourists often seek handicrafts, agricultural products, and jewellery
A single chalet for two to four guests does not bring masses of tourists, but every staying guest means an economic effect on several other local participants. This is how tourism works at the household level.
Administrative readiness
Such an intervention does not require special project documentation or permits. It was a replacement of an existing fence without a change in land use or expansion of the facility. This made the project administratively simple and quickly feasible.
Sustainability
Pyramid Energy House is a family business with its own web presentation, which ensures continuity:
- A steady inflow of guests through online reservations
- Every improved aspect of the facility is directly reflected in reviews and recommendations
- The family is motivated long term as this is part of a life project, not a secondary activity
- Maintaining the fence and garden does not require specialised staff - it is a continuous family engagement
The message of the project
The largest tourism projects are usually driven by major investors, but the deepest impression on a guest is often left by a small detail - a fence that means privacy, flowers in front of the door, a swing for a child.
With this project, Pyramid Energy House did not change its core identity. It remains a pyramid-shaped chalet with a view of the Bosnian Pyramids. But it turned an invisible weakness (a worn-out fence, an empty yard) into a visible strength - a green oasis, an enclosed space, cultivated appearance. For Visoko as a destination, this is the kind of investment that brings guests in and brings them back after they experience the quality offered by family facilities of this character.
