A Historic Day for Zeničko-dobojski kanton
Historic opening of the Adriatic Metals mine in Vareš - a 400 million BAM investment and a turning point for economic development of BiH.
Minister of Economy of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton Samir Sibonjic attended the historic opening of the Adriatic Metals BH d.o.o. mine in Vareš, marking a turning point for the economic development of the canton and all of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The investment of 400 million BAM was the largest single foreign investment in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2021, and the mine for rare metals, including zinc and silver, positions the country as a significant European player in modern and sustainable mining.
It was noted that this project represents an achievement far greater than anything that has occurred in the region over the past 35 years, and that it is the result of coordinated action at all levels of government, from local to national. The Vareš mine has already become a synonym for modern mining with minimal environmental impact and outstanding technology, while the town of Vareš is experiencing a revival, attracting new residents and becoming a symbol of integration and progress.
The Ministry of Economy expressed confidence that the successful realisation of this investment will open doors for dozens of new domestic and foreign investments across various sectors of the economy. The multiplicative effects of 2% GDP growth in a relatively small area are generating new investments, technologies, and jobs, continuing the long tradition of mining in Bosnia and Herzegovina and strengthening its position within the European family of developed nations.
