Visit to Vareš: Podlugovi-Vareš Railway Line Back in Service Thanks to Adriatic Metals
The ZDK Government delegation participated in the ceremonial train ride marking the reactivation of the Podlugovi-Vareš railway thanks to Adriatic Metals.
Minister of Economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton Samir Sibonjic, together with Premier Nezir Pivić and Minister of Finance Dženana Čišija, participated in the Zenica-Doboj Canton Government delegation at the ceremonial train ride of the Federation of BiH Railways, which marked the reactivation of the railway line between Podlugovi and Vareš. The reactivation was made possible by the British company Adriatic Metals, which invested 245 million KM in the previous year alone in a new mine where the extraction of silver, zinc, and lead ores will soon commence.
This investment represents one of the largest in the economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina as a whole since independence. It is expected to contribute significantly to changing the economic paradigm, positioning Zenica-Doboj Canton as a leader in development and attracting foreign investment. Financial benefits will be felt at all levels, starting with the citizens of Vareš, extending to the Canton, and reaching the entire Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The re-establishment of the railway connection to Vareš symbolises the return of prospects to this city and sends a message that investing in Bosnia and Herzegovina is both beneficial and necessary. The citizens of Vareš welcomed the arrival of the train, confirming that this investment represents a turning point not only in economic terms but also in terms of community revitalisation.
