Minister Šibonjić paid tribute to the defenders at Kota Blizna, whose liberation on 15 September 1995 completed the liberation of Zavidovići.
Minister of Economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton Samir Šibonjić attended the commemoration of the thirty-first anniversary of the liberation of Kota Blizna, a strategically important elevation in the area of Zavidovići, on 15 September 2026. The ceremony was attended by veterans, families of martyrs and fallen fighters, representatives of veterans’ organisations, citizens and numerous guests.
Kota Blizna was liberated on 15 September 1995. This completed the liberation of the entire territory of Zavidovići, which had begun on 10 September of the same year with the liberation of Vozuća. For this reason, 15 September is marked as Zavidovići City Day and as a day of remembrance for all the city’s victims. Today, Kota Blizna is part of the history of Zavidovići and a place that bears witness to the courage, unity and determination of those who defended their homes and their country.
During the commemoration, Minister Šibonjić paid tribute to all those who defended Zavidovići and Bosnia and Herzegovina with their lives and courage. The ceremony carried the message that every generation has a duty to remember, to honour the sacrifice of the defenders and to pass on the truth about the defensive and liberation struggle to future generations. The Minister’s attendance reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing a culture of remembrance and supporting the local communities of Zenica-Doboj Canton.
