Minister Šibonjić Discussed Halal Industry Development and the European Halal Congress

Minister of Economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton Samir Šibonjić today received Muamer Mandra and Damir Alihodžić at his cabinet office for a meeting dedicated to the advancement and development of the halal industry in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a particular focus on the potential of Zenica-Doboj Canton. The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere, centred on the promotion of domestic halal-certified producers and the strengthening of institutional cooperation within this sector.

Bosnia and Herzegovina holds a well-recognised position in the global halal industry, owing to its longstanding Islamic tradition and an established halal certification system that upholds high quality standards. Zenica-Doboj Canton, one of the most economically dynamic cantons in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is home to a solid base of halal-certified businesses whose capacities and market visibility have yet to be fully realised. The meeting addressed the question of further networking among these businesses and the establishment of mechanisms that would enable them to achieve greater visibility on both domestic and international markets.

Particular attention was given to the upcoming Fourth European Halal Congress, scheduled for 9 and 10 June 2026, which is emerging as an important platform for the international positioning of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian halal sector and the establishment of new business connections. Minister Šibonjić expressed full support for the continued development of this industry and for the Ministry's engagement in joint projects of significance for the economic development of the canton. "The halal industry holds enormous potential, and we are determined to create favourable conditions for domestic producers seeking to position themselves on the international market," said Minister Šibonjić at the close of the meeting.
