Sibonjic: Without Coal and Electricity from Kakanj, the Economy Would Not Be Competitive
Minister Sibonjic met with Kakanj Brown Coal Mine management on the importance of energy stability for the competitiveness of ZDK's economy.
A meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy of Zenica-Doboj Canton between Minister Samir Sibonjic and Acting Director of the Kakanj Brown Coal Mine Iso Delibašić and associates. The mine management informed the Minister about the current state of the company from the perspective of production and future development plans.
The Kakanj Mine holds a concluded concession agreement for the exploration and exploitation of brown coal and is one of the most important economic entities in energy production in the ZDK area. Minister Sibonjic emphasized that Zenica-Doboj Canton largely ensures energy stability for the entire Federation of BiH, and that the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant and the Kakanj Brown Coal Mine are guarantors of energy security.
Sibonjic noted that without coal and electricity from Kakanj, it would be a serious question how the Canton's economy would manage and whether it could remain competitive, also pointing to the low electricity prices for households compared to European ones. Both sides expressed readiness to enhance cooperation in the coming period.
