Minister Sibonjic Visits the Company BBM-Vareš d.o.o.
Minister Sibonjic visited BBM-Vareš d.o.o., one of the key players in the mineral resources sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Minister of Economy of the Zenica-Doboj Canton Samir Sibonjic, accompanied by the Director of the Cantonal Tax Office Zenica Sabahudin Ibrahimagić, visited the company BBM-Vareš d.o.o. in Vareš. They were welcomed by Director Izudin Sjerotanović. The Minister expressed gratitude for the hospitality, noting that the company has made and continues to make a significant contribution to economic development in the Canton, and thanked them for the regular settlement of concession fee obligations.
BBM-Vareš d.o.o. is one of the first concessionaires in ZDK, holding a 40-year concession since 2002 for the exploitation of non-metallic mineral raw materials — limestone and the eruptive rock spilite. Currently proven total reserves amount to 518 million tonnes of limestone and 212 million tonnes of spilite, placing them first in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Balkans region. The limestone is of very high quality with 98% CaCO3 content, suitable for pharmaceutical, lime, and cement industries, while the spilite is the highest quality eruptive rock in the region with 234 MPa impact resistance.
Minister Sibonjic informed the Director about the new ZDK Law on Concessions being drafted, aimed at more transparent concession granting. Director Sjerotanović presented the company's capacities and production capabilities, as well as plans to continue exploration within the 250-hectare concession area, where other mineral raw materials, including rare metals, are expected to be found.
