RMU Breza Concession: Solving a Decades-Old Problem
Minister Sibonjic discussed the coal mining concession for RMU Breza with 900 employees, working to resolve a problem that has persisted for decades.
The Minister of Economy of Zeničko-Dobojski Canton, Samir Sibonjic, held discussions in his office with the Mayor of Breza, Vedad Jusić, and representatives of the Breza Brown Coal Mine (RMU Breza), led by Director Muamer Omerhodžić, regarding the state of the mine and activities related to the award of a concession for coal exploration and exploitation.
RMU Breza has been encountering difficulties in the certification of documentation, specifically projects and studies that fall under the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry, given that a prerequisite for the certification of such documentation is a concession agreement signed with the ZDK Ministry of Economy.
The meeting produced several conclusions setting out short-term and long-term objectives that all parties will pursue in the coming period, with the aim of awarding RMU Breza a concession during 2023 and resolving a problem that has persisted for decades.
Representatives of RMU Breza, the Municipality of Breza and the Ministry of Economy will take all measures within their respective competencies to facilitate the mine's operations and support all 900 employees, as well as to improve the quality of life and living standards for the citizens of Breza, who will finally benefit from concession fee payments into the municipal budget.
Minister Sibonjic expressed his readiness to find effective solutions in order to sign the concession agreement with RMU Breza, and announced a forthcoming visit to the mine.
